Embedded analytics, by their nature, work as part of a broader experience. Integrating the experience up all kinds of value, but can be difficult to manage and scale.
That’s why we're excited to announce Ridge’s Embed SDK. Data is more valuable when it is a deep part of workflows and when it can access context and facilitate action. We shipped this SDK so you can make Ridge behave (and look) like a native part of the host application.
And, of course, you can do that programmatically, without huge amounts of engineering time or a lot of manual work.
What does the Embed SDK do?
The Embed SDK puts a Ridge dashboard inside your product and lets your app drive it. Your code can set and read the dashboard's filters, and it can also react when a viewer clicks or brushes a chart, and export images.
There are two approaches:
- iFrame: The simplest, fastest route. Simply paste the <iframe> tag into your page. No API key, backend or JavaScript is needed. It uses the published dashboard's theme.
- JavaScript embed: Gives you more control. Ridge renders directly in your page. Your server issues a short-lived token per user, and you get programmatic control, events, image export and per-embed theming.
Both approaches ship with an in-app playground for trying it on your own dashboards, plus full docs and API references.
So what does this unlock?
Set context automatically
Your app already knows what the user is looking at. Pass that in when the dashboard loads, so it opens already filtered to that campaign, warehouse, account or project, and the user never has to find the right filter themselves.
Match the look & feel
Ridge can match your brand's look and feel when embedded. You can set brand colors, background colors, and other visual elements automatically that apply to both iFrame or Javascript embeds. With the Javascript embed, some elements will be inherited automatically — for example, if your page has a set typeface, the Embed SDK can inherit it.
Beyond theming, the same affordances can drive the host and embedded Ridge. With the Embed SDK, a filter in the host product can update both native product content and the Ridge.
Personalize and govern at scale
Marketers need to support one-to-few or one-to-one personalization without manually creating a new dashboard or engineering project for every variation.
In Ridge, one published dashboard can serve every customer or prospect with partitioning. Each embed is tied to that viewer's partition (for example, their account ID), and Ridge enforces it on the server. Customers have the ability to query anything within that partition, but can never see data outside that partition.
Combine that with initial filters and you get hundreds of personalized experiences from a single dashboard you maintain once.
Composable analytics are powerful analytics
Ridge is designed to work as part of a larger product and data ecosystem. It’s the world’s first composable analytics platform.
We’re excited to see what you do with the Embed SDK! And we’ll be exposing more programmatic capabilities in the coming months.
